The Puneeth Rajkumar Hrudaya Jyothi scheme is administered by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka. It is designed to treat individuals suffering from sudden heart attacks and critical cardiac emergencies within the vital “golden hour”. The initiative is executed through a dual-framework model: a comprehensive “hub-and-spoke” healthcare network and widespread emergency response. Under the infrastructure model, district and taluk hospitals function as primary “spoke” centres connected to super-speciality “hub” hospitals. The second core component involves the installation of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices across crowded public transit points. These AED devices are strategically placed at bus stations, railway junctions, airports, and major government offices for rapid emergency access. AI-enabled diagnostic tools at spoke centres detect critical cardiac conditions in four to five minutes.
Emergency Therapeutics, Care Escalation, and Universal Coverage
Patients diagnosed with severe myocardial infarction receive the critical thrombolytic injection Tenecteplase entirely free of cost at spoke centres. This free administration provides up to 24 hours of clinical stability, replacing expensive private treatments. Following primary thrombolysis, patients are promptly transferred to designated tertiary hubs for advanced interventions like angiograms and angioplasty. The scheme provides comprehensive, cashless cardiac care to both APL and BPL ration card holders across Karnataka. While BPL cardholders receive direct free super-speciality treatment, APL cardholders access full financial coverage under the Ayushman Bharat – Arogya Karnataka framework.This integrated network ensures immediate, equitable, and life-saving cardiac care for all citizens regardless of economic background. Nodal coordination and super-speciality hub oversight are spearheaded by premier institutions like the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences.
