The Namma Clinics initiative delivers universal and comprehensive primary healthcare across urban Karnataka. The model is closely adapted from Delhi’s successful “Mohalla Clinics” framework. As many as 438 clinics are established across urban areas statewide at a total cost of ₹150 crore. Within the state capital, an initial batch of 108 ‘Namma Clinics’ was launched in Bengaluru. The initiative bridges the critical healthcare gap for daily wagers and underprivileged urban residents. These decentralized urban health centers function in line with Primary Health Centre (PHC) standards. The overall project significantly reduces out-of-pocket medical expenditure for low-income households.

Staffing Norms, Service Delivery, and Referral Framework

Each standard clinic operates with one medical doctor, one nursing staff, one lab technician, and one group-D worker. Facilities are equipped to serve an average catchment population of 15,000 to 20,000 citizens. A total of 12 comprehensive healthcare service packages are provided free of cost. These packages encompass antenatal, postnatal, neonatal, communicable disease management, and minor ailments. Free diagnostic tests and basic pharmaceutical treatments are integrated directly on-site. Patients requiring specialized or tertiary treatment have access to a structured free referral facility. Wellness activities, preventive health education, and tele-consultations further support patient care. Official guidelines and primary healthcare data are coordinated via the Karnataka Health Department.
