The Naavu Manujaru programme is implemented across Karnataka’s educational institutions. The Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT) acts as the nodal implementation authority. The initiative was formally announced in the state budget to inculcate core constitutional values in young minds. Its primary mandate focuses on fostering social harmony, mutual tolerance, and a rational scientific temper. The curriculum encourages students to think independently, analyze social issues, and develop critical reasoning skills. It systematically addresses and eradicates unscientific superstitions by cultivating intellectual curiosity. The programme aims to transform schools into vibrant centers of secularism, equality, and fraternity.

Institutional Coverage, Curriculum Schedule, and Pedagogical Activities

The initiative is implemented across all government, aided, and unaided primary and high schools of the state. Schools mandatorily dedicate two hours per week to structured discussions and interactive student dialogues. This allocated duration is organized into three weekly instructional periods of 40 minutes each. The weekly schedule is integrated by utilizing one value education period and two SUPW periods. Classroom sessions center on the teachings of major social reformers and the celebration of diverse cultural festivals. Students participate in collaborative activities, traditional desi sports, and community lunches (sahabhojana). District-level nodal officers oversee school-level compliance and regularly submit monitoring reports directly to DSERT. This structured framework ensures holistic civic development and strengthens social cohesion statewide.
