- Appemidi is a traditional mango cultivar of Karnataka.
- It is primarily grown in the Malenadu region of Karnataka.
- The name “Appemidi” means “Tender Mango” in Kannada.
- It is popularly known as the “King of tender mangoes.”
- It is highly valued by the pickle industry.
- Mainly used to prepare the famous “Appe Midi Uppinakayi” (tender mango pickle).
- Important growing areas are along the riverbeds of:
- Aghanashini River
- Bedti River
- Sharavathi River

- Found in wild/natural conditions

- GI Tag: Awarded on 4 September 2009.
- GI registration was obtained through the Department of Horticulture, Bengaluru.
- The GI registration was granted by the Geographical Indication Registry, Chennai.
- Appemidi was the first mango variety from Karnataka to receive a GI tag, before Kari Ishad mango.
- Exam point: Appemidi = Karnataka + Malenadu + Tender mango + Pickle + GI (2009).
