  • Karnataka has three important traditional jasmine varieties:
    • Mysore Mallige
    • Hadagali Mallige
    • Udupi Mallige
  • These varieties are famous for their fragrance and have GI protection.

1. Mysore Mallige

  • Region: Mysore and parts of Srirangapatna, Mandya.
  • Associated with Mysore city and historically patronized by the Wodeyars.

    • Dakshina Kannada
    • Uttara Kannada
  • Considered economically viable among the three varieties.
  • High demand in Mumbai and coastal regions.
  • Soil: Laterite soil.
  • Climate: High humidity and heavy rainfall.
  • Annual rainfall: 2,500–3,000 mm or more.
  • Propagation: Mainly by cuttings.
  • Planting: August–September.
