Insurance Coverage, Premium Structure, and Administration

The Karnataka State Gig Workers Insurance Scheme provides comprehensive social security to platform-based workers. The policy offers a total safety package of ₹4 lakh, consisting of life and accidental coverage. It provides ₹2 lakh as life insurance cover to the nominated dependents of the worker. An additional ₹2 lakh is granted as accident compensation in the event of disability or accidental fatality. Hospitalization expenses resulting from work-related or off-duty accidents are also partially reimbursed. The entire annual insurance premium cost is fully borne by the state government. The welfare initiative is implemented under the Karnataka State Unorganised Workers’ Social Security Board.

Target Beneficiaries, Eligibility, and Exclusion Criteria

The scheme covers individuals working as full-time or part-time delivery employees in e-commerce organizations. This includes active platform delivery partners associated with companies like Swiggy, Zomato, and Amazon. Eligible applicants must strictly fall within the prescribed age bracket of 18 to 60 years. Prospective beneficiaries should not be active income tax payees under standard fiscal laws. Workers enrolled in or availing Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) or Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) are ineligible. Eligible gig workers must register their e-Shram identity and documents through the Seva Sindhu portal. Beneficiaries or their legal heirs can file financial claims within one year of the incident. This framework establishes a vital, state-funded safety net for vulnerable logistics personnel.
