The Gruha Lakshmi scheme was officially launched on August 30, 2023, in Mysuru. It is administered directly by the Department of Women and Child Development. The primary initiative aims to provide direct financial security to female household heads. The government has dedicated a substantial budget allocation of ₹28,608 crore for its execution. Under this welfare initiative, each identified beneficiary receives a sum of ₹2,000 per month. The assistance is disbursed seamlessly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. This electronic transfer ensures that funds reach Aadhaar-linked bank accounts without intermediaries.

Target Beneficiaries, Eligibility, and Exclusion Criteria

The scheme strictly restricts entitlement to only one woman per eligible family unit. Coverage is specifically focused on households falling under the BPL or Antyodaya category. A mandatory criterion requires the total annual family income to remain below ₹2 lakh. Applicants must meet stringent socioeconomic standards to ensure equitable welfare distribution. Beneficiaries working in any branch of Government Service are strictly ineligible for aid. Furthermore, women who are active income taxpayers are entirely excluded from benefits. The tax disqualification clause applies equally if the beneficiary’s husband pays taxes. These parameters guarantee that financial relief reaches strictly underprivileged households.
